Students read and analyze the selected text in classical Japanese, then translate it into modern Japanese. They learn about the actual performance of the play using DVD recordings. They are familiarized with the history, terminology and techniques of the main Japanese performing arts noo, kyoogen and kabuki. They are encouraged to further develop their ideas about the meaning of the classical Japanese theater in the contemporary Japanese and global society.
