Interdisciplinary course related to the phenomenon of globalization and regional integration has brought significant economic and demographic changes in East Asia. The course seeks to deepen understanding of the ways in which these changes, including rising economic inequality, growing population movements within and across borders, and the emergence of renewed geopolitical significance of cultural and linguistic minority populations. These trends have coincided with significant changes in society formation, dissolution, and structures. Drawing upon literature, history and cultural studies the course examines a snapshot of key stratification issues in East Asian nations, and their evolution in conjunction with changing the societies and environment.
