Academic writing:
Students get acquainted with the basic principles of academic writing in English. The course covers the following topics: research techniques and academic sources, reading academic texts, citation styles, developing a thesis statement or a research question with hypotheses, argumentation techniques, structure of the academic paper.
Presentation techniques:
Students get acquainted with the basic features of spoken discourse and the differences between the spoken and the written mode. Special attention is given to different forms of public presentations of academic work. Students acquire public-speaking techniques. They learn elementary both rhetorical and argumentation skills of spoken discourse.
