Slovene Dialects

Basic characteristics of the dialect groups and dialects at all language levels in relation to the Slovenian standard language (synchronous view), students will learn about the dialects through selected texts. Emphasis will be placed on: tonal accent, diphthong, special vowels and consonants that occur only in dialects, basic particularities of declension, conjugation and derivational morphemes, lexem, characteristics of sentence structure, etc. Students will learn about modern national transcription of dialect words. The acquired knowledge will be continuously strengthened and deepened through students' seminar papers, in which they will analyze dialectal texts, which they will record and write down themselves.
