The course is designed to familiarize students with particularities and with the most important authors of Spanish American literature of the 19th, 20th and 21st centuries, and with the narrative's theorecial basics. The course also includes a detailed analysis of a list of prose works.

19th century:
Prose fiction during the independence movements; epistolary fiction; the »civilisaton«-»barbarism« relation reflects in novel; short story in Romanticism and Realism; realistic novel's thematic.

20th century:
Jorge Luis Borges – short story renewer; the generation of Argentinian short story and novel authors; Magic realism – concept, authors, works; the boom of Spanish American short story and novel – themes, authors, works; the importance of boom for the world's literature development; the »post-Borgesian« i.e. »post-magical-realistic« era; the role of women authors in Spanish American narrative.

21st century:
Contemporary tendencies – Spanish American novel and short story of the globalization and mass communication era; the hyperproduction phenomenon in literature.
